A Bump Before the Bouquet

Updated: Mar 2, 2022

It’s been a year since lockdown began, and the wedding industry has been working through multiple postponements and cancellations. Some couples may be comfortable postponing their wedding, but not comfortable postponing their family planning. Other couples might not postpone at all, and still be pregnant before the wedding. So, what do we do when there is a Bump Before the Bouquet?

In this month's post we're sharing all the thoughts and feels that come along with pre-wedding pregnancy. So, if you are expecting a ‘quarantine baby’, or just the regular kind, you've come to the right spot! We were so lucky to have one of our brides-to-be shared her pregnancy story with us.

"When my save the dates arrived Thursday and the pregnancy test showed a plus sign on

Saturday, the first thing that ran through my mind was, 'Oh no...my wedding!'. I quickly did

an online calculator to figure out my due date, and it confirmed that there was no way I was

having an October 2nd wedding with a September 21st due date.

After telling my fiancé, and texting a picture of the pregnancy test to my maid of honor, I

was like: I need to let Samantha (my wedding coordinator) know. She had spent so much time designing our dream wedding, and now I may need to postpone. I said may because in 2019, we made it 8 weeks, then miscarried. I wasn’t going to get my hopes up. Now, I am

13 weeks, and it's definite that my wedding is being postponed until October 2022.

With life’s change of plans for her and her fiancé came many fears, below she shared with us some of her initial thoughts

  • Will I still like my wedding dress next year?

  • Will I be able to lose the baby weight before the wedding?

  • Will the wedding professionals I booked be able to accommodate my new date?

  • Will people just expect us to elope and not have a formal wedding?

  • Will people be upset we had to postpone?

  • Are people wondering where their save the dates are? They weren’t sent and we haven’t announced the baby news yet.

  • Will my boss be understanding about maternity leave in the beginning of the year and needing time off for my wedding at the end of the year?

There was obviously TONS of excitement though given the number of wonderful positives, as well!

  • We’ll be adding an adorable ring bearer or flower girl to our wedding?

  • Maybe COVID precautions/mask wearing won’t be an issue for a fall 2022 wedding.

  • We have two amazing things to look forward to in 2021 and 2022.

  • Our rainbow baby finally arrived on his/her own schedule!!

Whether it was your plan to have a baby or not, or whether you’re concerned with what your folks will say because *GASP* you’re having a baby before you’re married, it’s definitely an exciting adventure that you and your partner are experiencing and, without a doubt, those around you will be just as excited (even if there is some slight hesitation at first)! Always remember, you don't have to go the traditional route. It's your life! This is something that is super exciting (despite any waves of nervousness you two may be experiencing).

While usually, we’re hired first for the wedding, we’re always happy to help our couples with making any life events stress free and enjoyable for, not only for them, but also their loved ones! Hiring a wedding planner isn't just about this one big moment, but all the ones after it as well. Just like with wedding planning, we reassure all of our couples that it is your day and it needs to be an extension of who you are - whether it be traditional or not, we're here to guide you in the right direction!

If you're looking for a way to announce the news to your loved ones? You can decide to announce by sending out baby announcements, or go for something more unique, like this onesie from Etsy!

We promise that everything will turn out okay in the end, especially since you and your partner will come away with a new ring bearer or flower girl, even if you intended for there to be no children! ;) ♥️

Xoxo, The KE Team
